Nursery Decor: Add a Splash of Colour and Texture With Wallpaper

· Kids

If you've reached the last stage of your pregnancy, it may be the right time to paint and decorate the nursery in preparation for the new coming member. Choosing the wallpaper's patterns and colours are important to set the tone for a pleasant sleeping environment. When choosing the right wallpaper, colours like pastel hues are often used with comical animal designs or fairytale motifs. And even though your newborn won't be able to perceive all of the colours in the first month or so, primary colours like red, yellow and blues will soon attract their attention. Once their eyes adapt to their surroundings their space becomes a place for visual inquiry.

The quantity of stimulus in a child's life has a direct impact on his or her growth, development, and learning. They are extremely sensitive due to their still-developing senses of sight, hearing, and sensation. As parents, in our efforts to provide the best for our little ones, we may unintentionally over-stimulate them. Yes, even that can happen too! Overcrowded walls with colourful, vibrant posters and nursery rooms frequently overflowing with plush and plastic toys are some examples.

Knowing about these developmental factors might help you choose the best wall décor for your baby's nursery. Friendly, joyful, and light colours create a warm, welcoming atmosphere, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the traditional pink and blue! Also, don't restrict yourself to pastel colours, as we've just learned that newborns prefer primary colours. A wall with a yellow pattern/motif wallpaper featuring friendly animal faces, for example, might be ideal for your baby's nursery. A patterned wall with a jumble of animal images, flowers, and trees in primary colours draws the baby's attention as it finds more intricacies. Pretty star or cloud wallpapers with larger-scale designs are also highly appealing and relaxing too.

Self-Adhesive vs Traditional Wallpapers

Let's start by defining some concepts. When we say traditional, we don't mean your grandmother's wallpaper. We're talking about non-adhesive non-woven wallpaper. But what exactly is this non-woven material we're discussing? Many years ago, the wallpaper market demanded a solution to vinyl wallpaper because, while it was durable, it was difficult to remove, would expand and contract, and stain, making cleaning difficult. So non-woven wallpapers came to light.

Non-woven refers to the wallpaper backing, which is made up of a mix of natural and synthetic fibres that are PVC-free and has a paper-like texture. This makes the wallpaper more breathable, lowering the danger of mould growth. It also decreases the amount by which the wallpaper expands or contracts to virtually nothing. This wallpaper generally requires an adhesive that must be soaked or pasted onto the wall before the paper is applied. The majority of wallpaper pastes used to adhere non-woven wallpaper are water-based, making them totally safe for use in nurseries. And if some mishap does happen, it can easily be washed with a wet cloth thanks to the non-woven backing. Finally, and most importantly, it allows being removed without causing the hassle that vinyl wallpapers were renowned for.

The next one is self-adhesive wallpaper, which is the most common option. It is not only an excellent choice for DIY projects, but it is also a PVC-free, fabric-based substance, making it ideal for decorating a child's room. The fabric is both breathable and porous. Fabric wallpaper is less susceptible to mould formation as a result of this. The substance used for self-adhesive wallpaper has also been tested with a Class A/Class 1 fire rating, which indicates the wallpaper can survive fire for a longer period of time than any of the other categories. The inks used to print the designs have been determined as non-hazardous to health and have no effect on indoor air quality. Another advantage of self-adhesive wallpaper is that it is readily removable, allowing you to quickly switch to different wall coverings when the time comes.

Since we've established that both papers in our current day are easily detachable, one place where there's a lot of light is in their installation. As previously said, traditional wallpaper will require paste and a roller brush to apply to the wall. Removable wallpaper does not necessitate the use of any of this equipment, resulting in a less messy application. Both types of wallpaper will require you to cut the paper to suit your wall, draw a plumb line with a level to ensure your wallpaper is straight, and mark it with a pencil.

However, the most crucial distinction, and where traditional non-woven wallpaper clearly triumphs, is when the paper is applied to the wall. Because there is a paste on the wall with traditional wallpaper, you may move the wallpaper after you apply it and manage the paper to get it straight or right up against the edge. Essentially, traditional enables you to be less than flawless with your application since you have a window of time before the paste dries to alter the paper. This also helps to smooth out the creases easier.
